OSF, a self-proclaimed jack of all trades and master of none, has made a name for himself in the nonfungible token (NFT) world. After leaving his job at Barclay’s, OSF focused full-time on Web3, digital art, his PFP project Rekt Guy, and collecting NFTs. Despite his many hats, OSF considers himself primarily an artist and project founder.
OSF’s journey into the NFT space began in early 2021 when he bought some Bitcoin, but it was a friend named Mando who pushed him further into the world of NFTs. Drawing on his experience as a trader in traditional finance, OSF applied his skills to the emerging asset class of NFTs. He minted 150 Bored Apes in April 2021 and sold most of them a week later for a significant profit. However, he retained a large collection of Apes and later teamed up with Mando to combine their collections. In February 2023, they made headlines by selling around 70 Apes for a substantial amount of Ether (ETH) each.
OSF’s art and projects are heavily influenced by crypto culture and nostalgia. He is particularly inspired by the artist XCOPY, whose work captures cultural moments and resonates with viewers. OSF enjoys looking back at past moments and believes that art is an excellent way to capture and preserve memories.
One of OSF’s projects, Rekt Guy, gained popularity after its launch in May 2022. The collection, consisting of approximately 8,800 pieces, saw its value increase while other similar projects declined. OSF’s commitment to his collectors extends to his “Red Lite District” collection, where he promises to release a new piece of art every month until the end of his life. This commitment was inspired by his brother-in-law’s admiration for one of his airdropped pieces. OSF decided to airdrop the piece to everyone who held a Red Lite District NFT, and the positive response convinced him to continue the monthly art releases.
Despite the skepticism of some, OSF is confident in his ability to fulfill his commitment to his collectors. He enjoys creating new pieces and has a multitude of ideas for future artworks. He believes that maintaining this monthly commitment adds an element of expectation and excitement for collectors.
