British arms manufacturer BAE Systems has announced its plans to localize the production of British L119 and US M777 howitzers, as well as Swedish CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, in Ukraine. This decision was made after a meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn. In addition, there are plans to open an office for BAE Systems in Ukraine.
President Zelensky expressed his appreciation for private companies opening offices in Ukraine and highlighted the importance of developing Ukraine’s own weapons production capabilities. He stated, “The best weapon… should be produced in Ukraine. The development of our own weapons production is one of the top priorities.”
The agreement between Ukraine and BAE Systems includes cooperation in localizing the production of BAE Systems weapons. The British company will be responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and supplying spare parts for new L119 light guns, according to Zelensky’s press service.
