The first cargo train from China to Russia crossed the newly built bridge over the Amur River on Friday, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), as reported by TASS news agency. This 2,209-meter (1.4 mile) bridge connects Nizhneleninskoe in Russia’s Far East with Tongjiang in China’s Heilongjiang province, and it has been in operation since November 2022.
Since the opening of the rail link, Russian trains have transported over 1.6 million tons of cargo to China through this bridge. With the checkpoints now operating round-the-clock, there has been a significant increase in traffic along this route. Building this bridge was a part of the agreement signed between Russia and China in 2008.
The RDIF played a major role in financing the construction of the Russian part of the bridge, with its contribution amounting to over 70% of the total cost. Other organizations involved in the project include the Russian state development corporation VEB.RF, the state-run company Russian Railways, and various Chinese firms.
This new bridge has created a vital logistical connection between Russia and China, reducing the transportation distance for cargo to China’s northern provinces by 700 kilometers (435 miles). The shorter route is expected to enhance trade between the two countries and promote the development of new projects in the Jewish Autonomous Region and Chinese border provinces.
The introduction of this transport corridor is significant for both Russia and China. It offers an efficient and convenient means of transportation for goods and establishes a stronger economic relationship between the two nations. This development is expected to boost trade and contribute to the growth of various industries in the region.
The construction of this bridge is part of a larger effort to enhance connectivity between Russia and China. The two countries have been fostering closer ties in recent years, with a focus on economic cooperation and trade. This new infrastructure project demonstrates their commitment to strengthening their relationship and promoting mutual prosperity.
As the bridge continues to facilitate trade and transportation between Russia and China, it is expected to have a positive impact on the economies of both countries. The increased efficiency and accessibility offered by this new transport link will likely lead to a growth in trade volume and the development of new business opportunities.
Overall, the completion of the bridge over the Amur River is a significant milestone in the economic cooperation between Russia and China. It provides a crucial logistical route for the transportation of goods and opens up new possibilities for trade and development in the region. The bridge symbolizes the deepening partnership between the two countries and reinforces their commitment to further strengthening their economic ties.
