A recent survey conducted by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) has revealed that more than half of German companies are concerned about the impact of the country’s transition to renewable energy and the reduction of reliance on Russian gas. The survey, called the DIHK’s energy transition barometer, uses a scale ranging from -100 (‘very negative’) to +100 (‘very positive’) to measure business sentiment. The latest barometer value stands at -27, indicating a significant level of concern among German businesses.
DIHK deputy managing director, Achim Dercks, expressed his worries about the current lack of confidence in German energy policy, stating that concerns about competitiveness have never been higher. This lack of confidence is having a direct impact on the decisions made by German companies, with almost one-third of industrial firms considering either relocating their production overseas or reducing domestic output. This figure has doubled since last year, highlighting the growing uncertainty among businesses. Of those contemplating such measures, 5.2% have already implemented them, 10.5% have measures in progress, and 16% have plans in place.
