A recent survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (WCIOM) has revealed that the majority of young Russians prefer careers in the fintech sector over the oil and gas industry. The survey, which included respondents aged 18-34, aimed to gauge the preferences of young Russian adults when it comes to their desired employers.
Among respondents aged 18-24, a significant portion expressed their interest in working for Tinkoff bank, with 25% of those polled selecting it as their preferred employer. Russian energy giant Gazprom was the second most popular choice, with 24% of respondents opting for it. Sberbank, one of Russia’s largest banks, came in third place, with 23% of respondents naming it as their favored employer.
In the 25-34 age group, the preferences were slightly different. 30% of respondents from this age group expressed their desire to work for Gazprom, making it the top choice. Sberbank and Russian tech giant Yandex tied for second place, with 18% of respondents selecting them as their preferred employers.
Interestingly, the survey also showed that among Russians with higher education, state-owned nuclear energy corporation Rosatom was often preferred. However, the popularity of Yandex decreased among this group, dropping from 18% to 10%.
Other notable companies that received favorable responses in the survey include Lukoil, which was selected by 9% of respondents, and Roscosmos, Norilsk Nickel, and Tinkoff Bank, each receiving 8% of votes. Additionally, e-commerce giants Wildberries and Ozon garnered 7% and 4% of respondents’ preferences, respectively.
When considering their job choices, respondents cited several factors as important criteria. These included a high salary and benefits, fulfillment of obligations towards employees, and adherence to labor safety standards.
The WCIOM poll, conducted between October 4th and 6th, gathered data from a random national sample of 1,200 Russian adults over the age of 18. Participants were contacted via phone for their responses.
These findings provide valuable insights into the career aspirations of young Russians and highlight the increasing attractiveness of the fintech sector, indicating a shift away from traditional industries like oil and gas.
