Before there was the Taliban there was the Mujahideen aka Ronald Reagan’s Freedom Fighters.
On June 16, 1986, President Ronald Reagan met with ‘Freedom Fighters’ [Mujahideen] in the Oval Office.
The Mujahideen were trained by the CIA to fight off the Soviets, once the Soviets left, the Mujahideen would eventually become the Taliban and Al Queda. Both were funded and trained by the CIA.
Tie in the poppy fields in Afghanistan and one trillion dollars worth of minerals, and you have an endless war and a drug trafficking cartel all funded by the US, the American taxpayer costing hundreds of thousands of lives.
