Queensland CHO Accidentally Reveals Mask Mandate for Schools
By Savannah Meacham
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer has accidentally revealed mask mandates will be part of the state’s back-to-school plan.
Dr John Gerrard said in today’s COVID-19 update press conference that masks will be mandatory for students in year seven and above, ahead of the official announcement of the return to school plan.
“Masks will be mandatory from year seven and above, and encouraged for those above year three,” he said.
“I’m jumping the gun here.
“Let’s wait until the plan is officially released — I probably should not be speaking until it is officially released.”
He later advised there is nothing in the return to school plan that will “shock Queenslanders”.
“Parents shouldn’t be worried about the plan,” he said.
Dr Gerrard added the full details of the return to school plan will be announced soon.
It comes as Queensland recorded 10,391 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours and 12 further deaths.
