Where Will the Power Come From if We Don’t Use Coal or Gas?
By Craig Kelly
Where will the power come from if we don’t use Coal or Gas ?
The above graph is NSW’s electricity demand & source of supply for the past 24 hours
At 5.30pm – total demand was 11,597 MW (w/sale price $610 MWh)
Coal was supplying 74.6% (7100MW + 1560MW imported from Qld = 8,660)
Gas was supplying an additional 9.5% (1103MW)
So what will replace this 9,763 MW of fossil fuel generated electricity that we needed at 5.30pm today ?
Simpletons like Chris Bowen say ‘’more renewables”
But it doesn’t matter how many solar panels you subsidise & buy from China, when the sun sets the output is zero.
And as for wind ?
After 20 years of subsidies NSW has 2224 MW of installed capacity.
But with low wind at 5.30pm today the turbines in NSW where only working at 11.5% capacity producing 256MW
Therefore, if we had 10 times the wind turbines than we currently have in NSW – they’d only be producing 2,560MW at 5.30pm (and there’s no guarantee of that) but we’d need almost 10,000 MW to replace fossil fuels.
