However, their attempts have been met with a strong rebuttal from over 100 former clerks who have come forward to defend Thomas’ character in an open letter.
The letter, signed by 112 individuals including current solicitors general, general counsels, partners at litigation firms, law professors, and three circuit court judges, praised Justice Thomas as a man of unwavering integrity and unshakable independence. They wrote, “As his law clerks, we offer this response. Different paths led us to our year with Justice Thomas, and we have followed different paths since. But along the way, we all saw with our own eyes the same thing: His integrity is unimpeachable.”
In an attempt to undermine the accusations made against Justice Thomas, the letter also highlighted his humble upbringing as the descendant of West African slaves and being born to a young mother in segregated Georgia. They emphasized that Thomas’ life experiences have shaped him into the principled jurist he is today.
The left’s relentless attacks on Justice Thomas are not only baseless but also reprehensible. It is evident to many that their motives extend beyond concerns about ethics; they simply want to remove him from the Supreme Court to replace him with someone who aligns with their own political ideologies. The Twitter user @udreams30 aptly summarized this sentiment, saying, “This man has not violated any ethics. Democrats are trying to destroy him so they can replace him with one of their own. It’s as simple as that.”
Another Twitter user, @Itsallright68, pointed out the unfortunate reality that Justice Thomas is facing criticism solely because he is a black conservative. This further highlights the left’s desperation in their attempts to undermine the Supreme Court’s conservative majority.
The fact that there is now a conservative majority on the Supreme Court is clearly causing immense frustration and distress among Democrats. As a result, we can expect their absurd and baseless attacks on justices like Clarence Thomas to continue in the future. However, it is reassuring to see that over 100 former clerks have stood up to defend Justice Thomas and his impeccable character. Their voices serve as a powerful reminder that integrity and independence should always be valued and protected, particularly within the highest court in the land.
