At the Florida Freedom Summit, former Republican Governor Chris Christie was confronted by vocal critic Laura Loomer. Known for her strong support of former President Trump, Loomer asked Christie a direct question: “Why are you supporting the weaponization of government and election interference against President Trump?” However, Christie refused to answer, which prompted Loomer to respond with a scathing remark. She confidently stated, “You’re never going to be President, Governor Christie. You might have a heart attack from eating too much. But, you’re NEVER going to be President. TRUMP 2024.”
The exchange between Christie and Loomer did not end there. Loomer took to Twitter to express her criticism of Christie, tweeting, “.@GovChristie, Nobody is scared of your FAT ass unless you’re about to sit on them. You are polling nationally at 3% in GOP Presidential Primary Polls. I asked you why you are supporting the WEAPONIZATION OF GOVERNMENT and ELECTION INTERFERENCE against President Trump!” Loomer clearly wanted to hold Christie accountable for his alleged support of government actions against Trump.
Christie eventually responded to Loomer’s criticism with a rather condescending remark. He told her, “The proudest moment of my career is to be opposed by someone like you.” This retort only added fuel to the fire, as Loomer vehemently denied ever suggesting Christie should die from a heart attack, refuting Christie’s claims.
The question posed by Loomer to Christie is not without merit. Christie has previously appeared on CNN, openly encouraging the Department of Justice under President Biden to intensify their investigations into Trump. This history led to a strong disapproval of Christie among attendees at the Florida Freedom Summit. During his speech at the event, Christie received loud boos from the crowd. Even more concerning was Christie’s attempt to belittle the attendees by stating, “Of course, all of you people are for Trump.” This dismissive comment certainly did not endear him to the audience.
The fallout from the interaction between Christie and Loomer may have political consequences. According to the Morning Consult’s GOP Primary polling released on October 31st, Christie is already polling at a low 3%. Insiders predict that his confrontational encounter with Loomer may further damage his standing among voters.
