Alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other heads of state, Freeland used her platform to highlight the accomplishments of the Liberal Party, including their plans to bring in one million permanent and temporary immigrants in 2022 and their proposed actions against grocery retailers.
During her speech, Freeland emphasized Canada’s progressive policies and the need to maintain this trajectory instead of succumbing to the rise of far-right populism. She particularly focused on the government’s approach to addressing the cost-of-living crisis in Canada. “Our government expects our country’s largest grocers to take a Team Canada approach, and do their part to get prices down and keep them down,” Freeland declared.

However, these words ring hollow for many Canadians who are currently grappling with a severe national housing crisis. The influx of immigrants has been directly linked to the skyrocketing housing prices in the country.

They pressed the leaders on their support for policies that disproportionately affect ordinary citizens while they themselves enjoy privileges and exemptions.
