The DeSantis News Network, also known as Fox News, had Florida Governor Ron DeSantis make an appearance on Sean Hannity’s show on Thursday evening. During the segment, Fox executives had DeSantis engage with the audience by throwing footballs to them. This move by Fox News resembles a similar event that occurred over the weekend, when former President Donald Trump threw signed footballs into the crowd during the Iowa vs. Iowa State tailgate. As a result, there has been speculation about the authenticity of Ron DeSantis and his actions.
The television broadcast gave off a scripted vibe as both Hannity and DeSantis seemed to be reading off the teleprompter. Additionally, a sign that said “clap” could be seen flashing over the heads of the audience. This staged setting reminded some viewers of the novel “1984,” where the government manipulates information and controls the narrative.
Critics took to social media to express their disappointment with Governor DeSantis and Fox News. Charles R Downs (@TheCharlesDowns) tweeted, “Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is so uncreative. Trump threw footballs last week. When globalists say jump, Hannity responds with how high? Mitt Romney on the View is more entertaining than the DeSantis News Network.” The tweet reflects the sentiment that this event was not genuine and was simply a ploy for political gain.
Donald Trump himself chimed in on the DeSantis-Hannity debacle by posting on X, “Not only is DeSanctimonious looking to destroy your Social Security, including moving the minimum age to 70, and your Medicare, but today he had a killer story in the Washington Post talking about his really bad spending habits. He’s gone, yet Fox has him all over the place, even on Hannity last night. They’ve actually picked another candidate, they just don’t know who it is yet…Ratings Freefall! I’m America First, so it will never be me!”
Trump’s statement alludes to the notion that Fox News is attempting to diminish his popularity by refusing to report on his high poll numbers and show his enthusiastic crowds. In a post to Truth on Thursday, Trump stated, “Best Polls Ever, but rarely shown on television. Leading by 50 and 60 points. Just like they don’t like showing our big Rally CROWDS, they don’t like showing our GREAT POLL NUMBERS. WE HAVE RIGGED ELECTIONS, AND RIGGED TELEVISION!”
It is worth noting that during the Iowa vs. Iowa State game, Trump also threw signed footballs into the large crowd of supporters gathered to see him. Unlike the DeSantis studio audience, Trump’s crowd was authentic and genuinely excited to see him.
As Donald Trump’s poll numbers continue to rise, Fox News appears to be growing increasingly desperate in their attempts to undermine him. They have been accused of not reporting on his favorable poll numbers and avoiding showing his massive rally crowds. In response to this, Trump tweeted, “WE HAVE RIGGED ELECTIONS, AND RIGGED TELEVISION!” suggesting that there is a concerted effort to suppress his popularity.
As the GOP primary election continues, National File will provide ongoing coverage of the events and updates.
