On August 7, 2023, Laura Loomer exposed Never Back Down PAC, a Super PAC supporting Ron DeSantis, for giving Bob Vander Plaats’ organization, the Family Foundation INC, a significant $50,000 payout ahead of the DeSantis campaign’s launch in Iowa. The purpose of this expenditure, according to Never Back Down, was for media coverage. However, Loomer alleges that Vander Plaats, who claims to be a Christian, accepted a bribe from Team DeSantis.
Loomer took to Twitter and shared a picture of an FEC record showing the $50,000 payout from Never Back Down to the Family Foundation INC. Her caption called for an investigation into the coordination between Vander Plaats and Never Back Down, stating, “I hope when you guys attended church together that you and @bobvanderplaats prayed to God that you don’t go to jail for bribery once an investigation into your coordination is carried out.” She continued, “I’d love to see you both in handcuffs. Tell us, why did @NvrBackDown24, your Super PAC wire $50,000 to Bob before you started campaigning in Iowa? That’s what we call BRIBERY.”
It was revealed that the Family Foundation INC is located in Urbandale, Iowa, according to records. Since the payout from Team DeSantis, Vander Plaats has been trying to sway Iowa evangelical Christians towards supporting Ron DeSantis by launching false attacks against the 45th President, Donald Trump, and his supporters.
Vander Plaats has been spreading the unsubstantiated claim that Ron DeSantis is the only Republican candidate capable of winning the general election. However, current polling indicates the opposite, with Trump holding a significant lead over Biden as the only GOP candidate with such a margin.
Over the weekend, Vander Plaats shared a photo of himself and Ron DeSantis in a church in Iowa. In the caption, Vander Plaats attacked Trump with a false claim that he mocks people with disabilities.
To assist in spreading these falsehoods, Vander Plaats has been relying on his ally, Steve Deace, another Iowa resident. Deace went so far as to promote a lie about NationalFile reporter Charles Downs spreading misinformation. When asked to retract the falsehood, Deace responded with insolence, refusing to apologize.
The connection between Vander Plaats’ false statements and his praise for DeSantis can be traced back to Never Back Down’s payout. Lying and political bribery are highly condemned in the Bible, and Christians would be wise to distance themselves from Vander Plaats.
In related news, a recent poll in Michigan showed that Trump has a 48-point lead over DeSantis, and he even outperforms Biden in battleground states. This data contradicts Vander Plaats’ claims that DeSantis is the only viable candidate for the general election.
The revelation of Never Back Down’s hefty payout to the Family Foundation INC has raised suspicions and highlighted the unethical tactics employed by some political groups. It remains to be seen how this controversy will affect DeSantis’ campaign and Vander Plaats’ credibility within Christian communities.
