The far left Democrat was heckled by a man who shouted, “Where’s Fang Fang?” This remark was in reference to the alleged Chinese Communist Party spy that Swalwell had reportedly been involved with. Interestingly, Swalwell seemed to have evaded any serious investigation or legal consequences for his connection with Fang Fang.
Townhall reported on the incident, stating that Swalwell was hosting a town hall meeting with his constituents in late July when he was interrupted by hecklers. The congressman was speaking about the impact of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and expressing his support for women’s freedom when the crowd became agitated. Among the shouts directed at Swalwell was the question about Fang Fang’s whereabouts.
Even though Congressman Mark Desaulnier and others at the event pleaded for respect and asked the hecklers to allow Swalwell to finish speaking, the interruptions persisted. Swalwell, attempting to maintain order, requested that his colleague be given a chance to speak.
A video of the incident, shared on Twitter by Townhall.com, showed Swalwell being heckled. He faced shouts of “LIAR! THAT’S A LIE!” and the repeated question, “WHERE’S FANG-FANG?!”
Jerry Dunleavy of the Washington Examiner later revealed new details about the Swalwell-Fang Fang relationship on Twitter. He referred to an Axios story from 2020 and mentioned that the FBI had strong evidence suggesting a sexual relationship between Swalwell and Fang Fang. This claim had previously been dismissed by Swalwell’s office, who refused to disclose details about their relationship.
According to a former FBI official specializing in counterintelligence, the FBI had conducted FISA surveillance on Fang, who was targeting various politicians in California, including Swalwell. The surveillance indicated that Fang was likely not a Chinese intelligence officer herself, but rather a willing collaborator for the Chinese intelligence services.
Fang had attracted the attention of not only the FBI but also the CIA and the NSA. The FBI believed that China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) was aware of Fang’s activities and also had connections with her family members.
The fact that Swalwell served on the Intelligence Committee despite these revelations is quite astonishing. One would think that such associations would raise serious red flags about his suitability for such a critical position.
