The Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California, opened on July 14 with a patriotic flag-raising ceremony. Families and teenagers on summer vacation eagerly made their way to the fairgrounds, enticed by the various novelty food stands and the joyful screams emanating from the small roller coasters.

Orange County Fair CEO Michele Richards expressed excitement about the new food offerings, stating that they would appeal to a wide range of palates. Some of the new food items include the Maple Bacon Smoothie, created specifically for bacon enthusiasts, as well as fruit pizzas and deep-fried s’mores.

The fair, which will continue until August 13, features the return of several pre-pandemic attractions, such as rodeo shows, concerts, and an action sports arena. Additionally, three new rides have been introduced this year. Richards highlighted the Joker 360, a thrilling roller coaster called Rafter, and the Slingshot, an exhilarating ride that launches riders up into the air 70 feet.

One of the highlights of this year’s fair is an interactive exhibit about the history of music since the 1940s. Fair officials have created an immersive experience where attendees can explore the evolution of music while admiring vintage music-advertising billboards that were once displayed on the bustling streets of Los Angeles. Among the featured artists on these billboards are Tom Jones and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley attended the fair’s opening day celebration and emphasized its significance as an economic driver for the City of Costa Mesa. She also praised the fair as a “super fun” event that people eagerly anticipate.

The theme of this year’s fair is “Happy Together,” reflecting the desire for more happiness in everyone’s lives. Foley emphasized that the fair is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate, which is especially important given the challenging times faced in recent years.

Ticket prices for the fair range from $9 to $15 for day rates, with the option to purchase a “super pass” for $60, granting entry on any day, even when tickets are sold out.

The Orange County Fair is hosted at the OC Fair & Event Center, located at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. The fair offers not only thrilling rides, delicious food, and entertaining shows but also a sense of community and togetherness that people eagerly look forward to every year.
