Canadian Members of Parliament will get a pay raise on April 1st. Sign our petition calling on Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland to Stop The Pay Hike!
The Deputy Prime Minister will increase their pay next month, the same day that the government will raise the Carbon Tax, without increasing its own wages. No transparency or rationality has been offered to the public for the pending raises due to the pandemic while ordinary citizens and many essential workers are still on the front lines.
The government needs to be held accountable for its decisions. Canadians are facing a challenging time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the economy. Now, on April 1st, a pay hike for Members of Parliament is scheduled, which contrasts starkly with the realities being faced by Canadians across the country. It is time for change and better representation. Many of us have had to reduce expenses drastically to make ends meet and now with the Carbon Tax hike we will face financial strain in all aspects of life. This raise in cost for Canadians is not fair as people are struggling to make ends meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is not fair that the government is raising taxes on citizens who are struggling financially.
The last time we got an extended break on repayments and interest, but now those costs are being raised. All due to the Bad fiscal management of the current Omnibus bill. The government is not speaking for the people at this time. It has been quite simple for the government to comment they cannot even conclude an agreement and then request an advance to pay the bills.
And right around the corner here we are having Members of Parliament and the Deputy Prime Minister getting an increase when many have lost so much and are struggling during this time of pandemic. This is completely unacceptable and we have had enough. Sign to make it clear to the government that raising the pay and taxes in this difficult time is the last thing we need.
By signing this petition people are showing the government that they are displeased with their decision-making and that they are calling for change. It is a time that we must band together and showcase that we have had enough and that we are not going to remain silent. Sign to show that you are a spokesperson for change. Although it is a difficult time it is important that we are together and remain vocal.
8,980 people have already signed our petition. Let’s hit our goal of 10,000 signatures. Your signature will make a difference and encourage our Members of Parliament to think twice about pocketing a pay raise during these challenging times. Let’s show our Members of Parliament that the people of Canada do not support this pay raise. Together, we can tell the government that their priorities are not in line with the best interest of the people.
