Canada’s federal government has declared the months of June to September as Pride Season. While inclusivity is an important aspect of liberal democratic societies, it is crucial to understand that inclusion can also be a complex political issue. Inclusion inherently means that not everyone can be included, leading to the exclusion of certain groups or individuals.

In order to foster a society that respects fundamental differences, liberal democracies support differences that uplift the humanity of individuals. Religious tolerance is a hallmark principle of inclusivity, as protecting religious beliefs strengthens the protection of all other beliefs.

Revolutionaries, on the other hand, often use inclusive symbols to project an illusion of harmony. However, they tend to tag opponents as enemies of the people at the slightest sign of dissent, ultimately excluding them. Martin Luther King Jr. highlighted the importance of character as the benchmark for tolerance, urging people to judge others based on their character rather than their skin color.

While discrimination based on sexual identity has been illegal for a generation, there is still a strong pursuit for inclusivity for various new sexual identities. This pursuit of inclusivity on narrow grounds can lead to self-exclusion and clashes with other equality-seeking groups. For example, conflicts may arise between the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia and the federal Secretariat for 2SLGBTQI+ when dealing with instances like an Edmonton teacher openly chastising Muslim students for their opposition to homosexuality and transgender identities.

It is also important to consider the clash between new sexual identities and the hard-won rights of women. The case of a B.C. male claiming to be a woman who compelled immigrant women to wax his genitals, or the man identifying as a woman joining a women’s rugby team and causing injuries to female players, highlights the potential risks and conflicts that arise from the pursuit of inclusivity without common standards.

The core issue lies in the indulgence of a fantasy that refuses to acknowledge common standards outside of individual feelings. The dismissal of logic and the reluctance to define a woman can exclude those who reasonably disagree with the affirmation that “trans women are women.”

The pursuit of untethered inclusivity also puts the most vulnerable at risk, such as in the case of sex reassignment in children. This practice can have profound negative effects on the children involved and erode parental rights.

Furthermore, embracing unattainable fantasies as expressions of identity does not foster equality or understanding. Instead, it can lead to a belief in unscientific ideologies and the adoption of damaging practices.

The danger lies in governments enforcing these arbitrary identity pursuits under the guise of progressive ideologies. Dissenters are often labeled as enemies of tolerance and are dismissed as fascists or racists. This disregard for positive and natural law, tradition, and the Constitution is concerning.

In conclusion, while inclusivity is important, it is crucial to critically examine the consequences and potential risks associated with pursuing inclusivity without common standards. The promise of inclusion for multiple sexual identities divorced from character can lead to pain, division, and exclusion. If governments continue down this path, we may face a future of imposed whimsical dictates in the name of progress.
