The Russian Investigative Committee has announced that charges have been finalized against a woman involved in the bomb assassination of military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. Aleksandr Bastrykin, the head of the agency, alleges that the suspect, Darya Trepova, was aware that she was transporting a disguised bomb which killed Tatarsky and caused an explosion in a cafe.
Bastrykin revealed that the case will claim that Trepova was recruited online by the masterminds of the crime, who are believed to be based in Ukraine. The charges brought against her include terrorism, trafficking of explosives, and forgery.
“It is amazing how cynicism and cruelty run in the followers of the Kiev regime. Trepova tried to convince investigators that she didn’t know that the statue had a tracking device. But the probe established that she was aware that she was transporting an explosives-filled statue,” Bastrykin stated.
Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name was Maksim Fomin, was killed in St. Petersburg in early April. The bomb disguised as a gift bust of Tatarsky exploded during a talk he was hosting, injuring over 30 people. The Russian government labeled the killing an act of terrorism and accused the Ukrainian government of being behind it.
Authorities identified Trepova as the courier who delivered the deadly gift to Tatarsky. She was arrested shortly after the assassination while attempting to leave the country. The Russian security agency, FSB, has identified a key accomplice of Trepova’s as Ukrainian national Yury Denisov. Denisov allegedly provided the disguised bomb and collected intelligence on Tatarsky. He is still at large.
Russian officials have connected Trepova’s alleged crimes to her support of FBK, an anti-corruption organization founded by opposition figure Alexey Navalny. The leaders of the group allegedly urged people to undermine the Russian government by any means necessary, according to Bastrykin’s office.
The investigation into Trepova’s involvement in the assassination continues. The charges against her highlight the severity of the crime and the alleged connections to the Ukrainian masterminds. The Russian government is determined to hold all responsible parties accountable and ensure justice for the victims of this tragic incident.
