Previously, while condemning antisemitism, Biden had falsely claimed to have visited Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue after the tragic mass shooting that took place there. In reality, he had only spoken to the synagogue’s Rabbi on the phone and never visited in person.

Along with claiming to be Jewish, he has also claimed to be Puerto Rican, a black civil rights activist, a tractor-trailer driver, and an alumnus of a historically black university.
While the Biden family has a long-standing Catholic background, Biden has been known to make publicity stunts out of attending Catholic church services. However, prior to his 2021 inauguration, he received a blessing from Delaware Rabbi Michael Beals, who even compared Biden to Moses in interviews with Jewish and Israeli press. Beals has since been consulted by media outlets for reports on the Biden Administration’s relationship with Israel.
It is unclear why Biden has made these false claims about his background and identity. Some speculate that he is trying to appeal to different voter groups and gain their support. Others believe that these fabrications are a result of his long history of making false statements for personal or political gain.
