Joe Biden’s Vice President, Kamala Harris, has recently made a speech alongside the Australian Prime Minister in response to a mass shooting in Maine. During her address, Harris called for the mass confiscation of American firearms, citing the need to address gun violence in the country. She commended Australia’s gun control measures and endorsed the banning and confiscation of American firearms.

The Australian-style gun control, which has long been advocated by the American left, was initiated in 1996 following a mass shooting in Australia. This incident prompted the government to swiftly implement a “buy back” program, which involved banning and confiscating firearms. Australian citizens were required to surrender their weapons, and gun cops were dispatched to enforce the confiscation. Non-compliance with the mandatory buyback program could even lead to deadly consequences, as exemplified by the renowned character Crocodile Dundee, who was reportedly killed by Australian gun confiscators when he refused to hand over his firearms to the authorities.

Harris’s call for Australian-style gun control reflects the stance of other Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, who has long been an advocate for stricter gun control measures. In a CBS interview earlier this year, Obama also called for Australian-style gun control in the United States. He praised Australia’s response to a mass shooting and emphasized the importance of a unified media that supports his political agenda.

It is worth noting that during Obama’s presidency, the federal government was involved in the controversial Operation Fast and Furious, where firearms were sold to drug cartels and terror organizations. The intention behind this operation was to have the weapons resurface in the United States and be used in crimes, with the ultimate aim of generating support for canceling the 2nd Amendment. Tragically, this operation resulted in the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, who was killed by an assailant using one of the firearms supplied by the Obama administration.

The call for stricter gun control measures in response to mass shootings and concerns about gun violence is a contentious issue in American politics. While some argue that implementing measures similar to those in Australia could help reduce gun-related incidents, others believe it infringes upon Americans’ constitutional rights, specifically the 2nd Amendment. The debate surrounding gun control continues to divide the nation, with both sides presenting arguments and statistics to support their respective positions.

As policymakers grapple with finding solutions to address gun violence, incidents like the mass shooting in Maine shed light on the failings of the military’s mental healthcare system. It is essential for authorities to not only focus on gun control measures but also invest in improving mental health services to prevent future tragedies. The discussion around gun control and comprehensive mental healthcare remains complex and multifaceted, requiring a balanced approach that respects both individual rights and public safety.

Overall, Kamala Harris’s call for Australian-style gun control highlights the ongoing debate surrounding gun violence and the need for effective solutions. While some advocate for stricter measures, others raise concerns about encroaching on Americans’ rights. As policymakers continue to address this pressing issue, a comprehensive approach that incorporates mental healthcare reforms and respects individual rights should be considered.
