Rebel News team members Alexa Lavoie and Lincoln Jay are currently in Maui to uncover the truth behind the recent wildfire that destroyed the historic town of Lahaina. During their visit, they encountered a camp set up by locals who had actually kicked out the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) due to their dissatisfaction with FEMA’s attempts to take control of the situation. Instead, the camp has taken matters into their own hands and are using a Starlink connection to fulfill orders at a makeshift pharmacy.

Lavoie and Jay discovered that the camp provides various services and has become a community hub. They observed Hawaiian flags, many of which were flown upside down as a sign of distress. Despite the devastation in the surrounding area, the camp exudes a sense of pride, charity, and love in accordance with Hawaiian traditions.

The importance of internet connectivity was also highlighted during their visit. The camp’s Starlink connection allows them to stay connected and informed about important information and updates. Lavoie and Jay spoke with a couple who mentioned receiving messages from an airplane flying overhead during the early days of the disaster. These messages provided crucial information about road access and available services.

It is evident that the camp has become an alternative government in helping the affected community. Meetings, food distribution, medical assistance, and even pet care all take place within the camp. The locals have refused FEMA’s offer to take over, displaying their resilience and determination to handle the situation themselves.

The Rebel News team plans to provide further reports on the areas affected by the fire. To support their citizen journalism, donations can be made on TheTruthAboutMaui.com, where information about donating to relief efforts is also available.

The devastation caused by the wildfire in Lahaina is a clear reminder of the value of community and the strength that can be found in coming together during times of crisis. The Rebel News team aims to shed light on the truth behind the tragedy and give a voice to the ordinary people affected by this disaster.
