The first leg of Rebel News reporter Avi Yemini’s A Rebel From The Start book launch was a resounding success, despite attempts by ‘woke’ activists to cancel the events. In a powerful show of solidarity, indigenous supporters greeted Avi with a traditional Māori welcome, exemplifying unity and strength.
However, the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul faced hurdles when the venue received threats from left-wing activists, leading to the event’s cancellation. But instead of yielding to the pressure, with assistance from Pastor Brian Tamaki, the event found a new home at the Destiny Church in Lower Hutt. Avi emphasized the importance of standing for freedom of speech and assembly, stating that threatening a book launch with violence is no better than burning a book.
In response to the cancellation, Antifa activists resorted to plastering posters in Wellington labelling Avi as a ‘racist’ and a ‘violent far-right thug’ in an attempt to stir controversy. Avi, however, fought back, highlighting his diverse background and relationships with people from different cultures and backgrounds, in contrast to the narrow-mindedness of the extremists.
Avi has faced controversies in the past, including a ban from entering New Zealand which was linked initially to a minor criminal conviction. However, it was later exposed that the real reason for the ban was the authorities’ fear of Avi’s “propensity to challenge opposing [establishment] views.” Despite this, the ban was eventually overturned, aligning perfectly with the timing of the completion of his book.
The book launch also had a successful turnout in Melbourne, Australia, where Avi held his first official Australian launch. Supporters showed their strong support by attending the event in large numbers.
