In the battleground state of Michigan, the latest round of polling for the 2024 GOP Presidential Primary shows that former President Donald J. Trump has a substantial lead over other potential candidates. According to a survey conducted by Emerson College, a staggering 61% of likely 2024 GOP voters in Michigan say they will be voting for Trump in the state’s primary.
The poll, conducted on August 1st and 2nd, reveals that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis receives only 13% of the support from respondents. Other candidates in the field fail to gain significant traction, with single-digit support. Trump’s overwhelming numbers continue to dominate the competition.
Furthermore, the polling data suggests that Trump is also leading in the state’s general election polling. When likely 2024 Presidential Election voters were asked to choose between Trump and Joe Biden, the two candidates were evenly split, with 44% of voters backing each one. However, when Green Party candidate Cornel West was included in the race, Trump gained a 2-point lead over Biden.
Under the 3-way race scenario, 43% of respondents express their support for Trump, while 41% back Biden, and 4% support Cornel West. This data indicates that Trump is positioning himself as a frontrunner for the 2024 presidential race.
These poll results come at a time when Trump faces ongoing legal challenges from the Biden administration. The Department of Justice, under Biden’s leadership, appears determined to disrupt Trump’s potential campaign for the upcoming election. However, the polling data suggests that such efforts may be in vain, as Trump’s popularity remains strong among voters.
During Trump’s recent visit to Washington, D.C., where he faced arraignment by Biden DOJ prosecutor Jack Smith, he referred to his persecution as a “great honor.” Trump expressed that he believed he was being arrested on behalf of the American people, highlighting his commitment to fighting for their causes.
It is worth noting that these poll results reflect the sentiments of GOP voters in the state of Michigan at a specific moment in time. As the 2024 presidential race unfolds and candidates develop their campaigns, the political landscape may shift. Nevertheless, Trump’s significant lead in the early stages of polling suggests that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the GOP primary race and the general election.
