Mississippi’s GOP Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann has come under scrutiny for his collaboration with Democrats and his appointment of them to powerful positions within the Mississippi State Senate. Despite Republicans holding a 36-seat supermajority in the Mississippi State Senate, Lt. Governor Hosemann has appointed 13 Democrats to influential committee chairmanships. This has allowed the Democrats to seize more power than what the voters have given them and has impeded the conservative agenda that the voters elected 36 Republicans to protect and advance.
One of the individuals challenging Hosemann for the GOP’s Lt. Governor nomination is conservative Mississippi State Senator Chris McDaniel. McDaniel has made it a focal point of his campaign to expose Hosemann’s collaboration with Democrats, earning Hosemann the nickname of “Delbert the Democrat.”
In a campaign ad, McDaniel criticizes Hosemann’s close association with Democrats, stating, “You can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps. Delbert Hosemann has appointed 13 Democrats to influential chairmanships instead of Republicans. That’s how we know Hosemann is no conservative.”
During a recent radio interview, McDaniel elaborated on how Hosemann’s collaboration with Democrats has impeded the agenda that the people of Mississippi voted for. He emphasized that Mississippi is one of the few places left where individuals can push back against the far-left woke agenda that is believed to be detrimental to America.
McDaniel stated, “It makes no sense to have 36 Republicans in that chamber versus 16 Democrats and still be unable to get our big-ticket agenda items passed. We shouldn’t have an income tax, Paul. We shouldn’t have any woke culture in this state. We ought to be pushing back every chance we get, and we’re not, because Delbert Hosemann is blocking the agenda.”
He stressed the importance of governing as true Republicans and highlighted the obstacles presented by individuals like Hosemann who stand in the way of conservative progress. According to McDaniel, Mississippi is a refuge for conservative thought, and protecting the state’s pro-America electorate is vital on both a state and national scale.
“This is the place to make the fight, this is the place to hold the line in the sand and push back against liberals and tell them they’re not welcome here,” asserted McDaniel. He further emphasized the need to resist the influence of Joe Biden’s federal government and the importance of blocking conservative legislation from being thwarted.
In a separate interview, McDaniel criticized the Mississippi Establishment GOP for wanting to eliminate income tax by raising taxes, arguing that they are wrong in their approach. He highlighted the potential negative consequences of such a strategy.
