Hamilton Centre NDP MPP Sarah Jama is once again facing criticism for her anti-Semitic remarks and support for terrorist organizations. In the wake of the recent massacre in Israel, Jama took to social media to express her disdain for the state of Israel and call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian land. Her tweets included a reference to apartheid, drawing attention to the perceived similarities between Israel and South Africa during the 1980s.
However, Jama conveniently ignored the brutal acts committed by Hamas, the terrorist group responsible for the recent wave of violence in Israel. Instead, she focused solely on condemning Israel and advocating for the Palestinian cause. This one-sided approach demonstrates her biased stance and lack of concern for the innocent lives lost in Israel as a result of Hamas’ violence.
Adding to the controversy, Jama attended a march calling for an intifada and the destruction of Israel. The presence of the Hamas flag at the march highlights her unwavering support for a terrorist organization that has consistently shown a disregard for human rights, including the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
Jama’s anti-Israel rhetoric is not new. During her time as a student at McMaster University, she actively participated in organizations such as Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights and advocated for the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement. Her association with these groups, as well as her support for convicted terrorist Marwan Barghouti, exposes her deep-seated bias against Israel and raises questions about her true intentions and beliefs.
In an attempt to address these concerns, a visit was made to Jama’s constituency office in Hamilton. However, the office was locked and unmanned, with a sign stating that they were working remotely due to safety concerns. This move came after receiving “concerning calls and emails,” which raises the question of whether Jama and her team are willing to engage in meaningful dialogue and address valid criticisms.
The response from various Jewish groups and political leaders has been swift. Several organizations, as well as interim Liberal leader John Fraser and Premier Doug Ford, have called on NDP leader Marit Stiles to remove Jama from caucus. Ford specifically stated that Jama’s views have no place in the legislature or the province. Despite these calls for action, Jama remains in caucus, highlighting the inaction towards addressing Jew hatred within the NDP.
This situation serves as a wake-up call for NDP leader Marit Stiles, who must confront the issue head-on and take appropriate action. If there is any hope of gaining credibility and addressing the concerns of the Jewish community, decisive steps must be taken to hold Jama accountable for her discriminatory and inflammatory remarks.
In conclusion, Sarah Jama’s history of anti-Israel rhetoric and support for terrorist organizations is deeply concerning. Her recent comments and actions regarding the massacre in Israel demonstrate a clear bias and lack of empathy for the lives lost. It is imperative that political leaders and the public condemn such hatred and stand against anti-Semitism. The time for action is now, and it is up to NDP leader Marit Stiles to show true leadership and address this issue within her party.
