At the Peel District School Board’s board meeting on September 27, 2023, in Mississauga, Ontario, frustrated parents voiced their opposition to the board’s approval of the controversial ‘2SLGBTQ+ Action Plan.’ The plan, which aims to create inclusive learning environments, had been passed without addressing the concerns of parents beforehand.
The approval of the plan comes after the nationwide #1MillionMarch4Children rally, where parents and children across Canada gathered to express their concerns about gender ideology in classrooms. Despite condemnation from far-left union activists and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who labeled the protest as ‘hateful,’ parents from diverse backgrounds came together to advocate for their beliefs.
The 42-page ‘Two Spirit & LGBTQIA+ Action Plan,’ authored by Lisa Hart and Camille Logan, seeks to establish anti-oppressive and inclusive learning and working environments. However, parents present at the meeting expressed their belief that the plan promotes gender ideology in the classroom, which they see as a form of indoctrination for their children.
The document includes a full-page land acknowledgment and uses gender-related language to address the need for change within the education system. Parents attending the meeting were disappointed that they weren’t informed about the plan before the board voted on it.
One of the notable recommendations in the action plan is to prioritize the advancement of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals into positions of responsibility, challenging the traditional merit-based system. This recommendation further intensified the concerns of parents present at the meeting.
During the voting process, there was a back and forth between trustee David Green and the crowd. Despite attempts to control the situation, the board ultimately approved the plan with a majority vote. The decision triggered a reaction from the parents in the room, who shouted their disapproval, expressing their frustration at not being given the opportunity to voice their opposition beforehand.
After the meeting, some trustees left while the parents continued to express their concerns and demands. Ward Councillor of Brampton 1 & 5, however, stayed to listen to the parents and assured them that they would have another chance to express their views in the upcoming meeting. He clarified that although the action plan had been approved, it had yet to be implemented, and additional input from stakeholders would be considered.
Despite the councilor’s assurance, parents remained dissatisfied with the response and continued their protest outside the building after security cleared the room.
A full video report with interviews of the parents present that night will be available on StopClassroomGrooming.com. The website also provides a petition to sign for those who agree that students should not be exposed to highly sexualized education. Additionally, individuals can contribute to the travel costs of bringing these reports from across Canada.
In conclusion, the approval of the ‘2SLGBTQ+ Action Plan’ by the Peel District School Board has sparked discontent and frustration among parents who claim that their voices were not heard. The controversy surrounding this issue highlights the ongoing debate about gender ideology in Canadian classrooms and the role of parents in determining the values and lessons taught to their children.
