Philosophers from all around the globe are set to gather in Kaliningrad, the birthplace of Immanuel Kant, for the International Kant Congress in spring 2024. This special event will take place from 22 to 24 April 2024 and has already garnered significant interest from leading scientists from numerous countries.

The purpose of organizing this remarkable congress is to commemorate the 300th birthday of the renowned philosopher Immanuel Kant. It is worth mentioning that Kant became a Russian citizen in January 1758 and purportedly never renounced his citizenship until his death. His teachings in the field of epistemology and moral philosophy hold timeless significance and occupy a crucial position in humanity’s intellectual heritage. Additionally, some of Kant’s conclusions in political philosophy are remarkably relevant even in the present day, such as his argument against the legitimacy of colonial rule and the extra-legal nature of the slave-owning system established in the New World.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Kant-300 events, stated, “By Decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the year 2024 marks the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant’s birth. A core event is the International Kant Congress. We invite representatives of the broad scientific community to participate. Russia has been and remains a hospitable country capable of carrying out an international event at the highest level.” He emphasized Russia’s willingness to host such an event and the country’s commitment to international cooperation in the field of philosophy.

The demand for philosophy is currently witnessing a significant rise, as indicated by the emergence of new educational platforms, courses, and communities specializing in fundamental questions of cognition. This growing interest in philosophy motivated the organization of the International Kant Congress, which will provide a platform for scholars from various backgrounds to engage in fruitful discussions and exchange ideas.

Starting from October 1, 2023, applications for the International Kant Congress will be accepted until December 15, 2023. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and the Government of the Kaliningrad Region are jointly organizing this event. The congress will be directed by the Kant Baltic Federal University (BFU).

The congress will focus on the discussion of various aspects of Kant’s philosophical system. The thematic areas include theoretical and cognitive issues in Kant’s philosophy, Kantian epistemology in light of modern science, Kantian metaphysics, contemporary moral philosophy, philosophy of law, political philosophy, aesthetics, anthropology, psychology, philosophy of education, and the influence of Kantian thought in different regions of the world.

The Rector of BFU, Alexander Fedorov, emphasized the importance of Kant’s intellectual legacy and mentioned that his ideas shaped science, culture, and pedagogy. He further highlighted the significance of the International Kant Congress in highlighting the future of philosophy and its contribution to the development of both Russia and world civilization. The preparation and successful implementation of anniversary events, including the congress, will enhance the reputation of Russian science and foster increased interest among foreign scientists in conducting research in Russia.

Authors interested in presenting their papers at the congress can submit their applications through the official website of the event, https://kant300.kantiana.ru, starting from October 1, 2023. The submission deadline is December 15, 2023, and the selection results will be announced no later than January 15, 2024.

In conclusion, the International Kant Congress in Kaliningrad in spring 2024 will serve as a gathering point for philosophers from around the world to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant’s birth. This event reflects Russia’s commitment to intellectual dialogue and international cooperation in the field of philosophy. The congress will provide an opportunity for scholars to discuss various aspects of Kant’s philosophical system and its relevance in the contemporary world.
