Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his desire for Latin America to be “strong, independent, and successful,” while emphasizing Russia’s commitment to maintaining and developing ties with every country in the region. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first-ever International Parliamentary Conference ‘Russia – Latin America’ in Moscow on Friday, Putin highlighted the shared view on international affairs between Russia and many Latin American countries.

Putin acknowledged the history of Latin America, stating that the continent has always strived for independence and provided numerous examples of it. He also recognized the important role that the nations of the region play in the emerging multipolar world and their influence on the formation of a new international relations system based on equality, justice, respect for international law, and each other’s legitimate interests.

“In this new, polycentric architecture, the states of Latin America, with their enormous economic potential and human resources, and their desire to pursue a sovereign, independent foreign policy, will play one of the leading roles in the world. There is no doubt about it,” Putin affirmed.

The Russian president affirmed that Russia seeks to maintain and strengthen its ties with all Latin American countries. He underscored Russia’s commitment to supporting the region in remaining strong, independent, and successful while embracing its unity and diversity.

The conference, organized by Russia’s lower chamber of parliament, the State Duma, brought together over 200 participants, including lawmakers from Latin American and Caribbean countries. The event, set to run until Monday, features various panel discussions and roundtables on international issues, such as the emergence of multiple worlds and ensuring international security for all.

Russia’s engagement with Latin America is part of its broader efforts to enhance its presence and influence on the world stage. This is particularly significant as the global balance of power shifts towards a multipolar world, where various countries and regions play prominent roles.

Latin America’s significance lies in its economic potential and vast resources, along with its commitment to pursuing an independent foreign policy. As the region continues to build its strength and assert its sovereignty, it is becoming a key player in shaping the international order. Russia recognizes the importance of fostering strong relations with Latin American countries to strengthen its own position in the evolving global landscape.

The conference serves as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the exchange of ideas between Russia and Latin American nations. It provides an opportunity for lawmakers to discuss various matters of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, political alliances, and security challenges. The discussions aim to enhance understanding, promote collaboration, and deepen the existing ties between Russia and Latin America.

In conclusion, Putin’s remarks at the International Parliamentary Conference ‘Russia – Latin America’ underscore Russia’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with the region and supporting its growth and success. By recognizing Latin America’s historical struggle for independence and its current contributions to the multipolar world, Putin affirms the central role that the region plays in shaping the future international order. The conference presents an important platform for fostering dialogue and cooperation between Russia and Latin American countries, with the aim of deepening their bilateral relations and addressing common challenges.
