The Russian military has released a video showing the destruction of a DANA wheeled howitzer, which was supplied by the Czech Republic to Ukraine. The footage captured by a drone shows a Ukrainian howitzer firing from a concealed position among trees. Suddenly, a suicide drone from the Lancet-family targets the howitzer from the rear, causing an explosion and starting a fire. The Russian military did not disclose specific details about when or where the attack on the Ukrainian artillery piece took place.

During the early stages of the conflict, the Czech Republic supplied a number of DANA-family systems to Ukraine. The original DANA Vz77 artillery pieces were first introduced in the 1970s in Czechoslovakia and are capable of firing Soviet 152mm shells with a maximum range of 20km.

However, it is reported that Ukraine also received upgraded versions of the DANA howitzers, known as the DANA M2, from the Czech Republic earlier this year. These improved howitzers are equipped with computerized fire control, making them more accurate and enabling them to operate with a smaller crew.

In addition to the Czech-supplied DANA howitzers, Ukraine has also acquired derivatives of the DANA-family from Slovakia, known as the Zuzana 2. These Slovak-made artillery pieces utilize NATO caliber 155mm shells and are known for their exceptional long-range accuracy and high rate of fire.

The destruction of the DANA wheeled howitzer by a kamikaze drone highlights the evolving tactics and technologies being employed in the conflict. Suicide drones, capable of targeting and destroying military assets, have become increasingly prevalent in modern warfare. The use of such drones allows for more precise and targeted strikes, potentially changing the dynamics of future conflicts.

The release of this video by the Russian military aims to showcase their capability to counter and neutralize Ukrainian military assets. It also serves as a warning to other countries involved in the conflict about the potential consequences of supplying weapons to Ukraine.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing since 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. Various ceasefires and peace agreements have been attempted, but the situation remains unstable, with sporadic fighting and tensions along the border.

Both sides have received support from international allies, with Ukraine receiving military aid from countries such as the Czech Republic and Slovakia. On the other hand, Russia has been accused of providing support to separatist groups in eastern Ukraine.

As the conflict continues, it is clear that both sides are seeking to exploit new technologies and strategies to gain an advantage. The use of drones and other advanced weaponry further complicates the situation and increases the potential for further destruction and loss of life.

The release of this video serves as a reminder of the devastating impact that modern warfare can have and underlines the need for diplomatic efforts to find a lasting solution to the conflict. It is crucial for international actors to engage in dialogue and work towards de-escalation to prevent further escalation and human suffering in the region.
