In the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry has announced that Russian forces have targeted and destroyed several Western-made artillery systems during battles with Ukraine. A statement released by the ministry on Sunday reported that a US-made Paladin self-propelled howitzer was eliminated by counter-battery fire in Zaporozhye Region. Two American-supplied M777 howitzers were also destroyed, one in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and another in Kherson Region. Additionally, a Polish Krab self-propelled howitzer was blown up by the Russian military near the city of Kupyansk in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region. Along the front line, around a dozen Soviet-era artillery systems were neutralized.
The Russian military also shot down a Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter in the area near the village of Klescheevka, not far from the city of Artyomovsk. Moreover, air defenses intercepted three HARM anti-radar missiles and eight projectiles fired by HIMARS multiple rocket launchers.
The statement from the Russian Defense Ministry continued to reveal that four Ukrainian attempts to advance in the DPR were thwarted, and Russian forces in the area near the village of Veselyoe launched a counterattack and “improved their tactical position.” Meanwhile, Ukraine has been conducting a counteroffensive since early June, but its progress has been limited, with the capture of only a few small villages that are far from the main Russian defense lines.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated that Ukraine has suffered heavy losses, with over 71,000 troops and 540 tanks lost since the beginning of the operation. However, Ukraine has failed to achieve any significant gains on the battlefield.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with ongoing clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces. Each side continues to receive support from international allies, increasing concerns about the escalation of the conflict. The loss of Western-made weapons by the Ukrainian forces further highlights the intensity of the fighting and the effectiveness of the Russian military’s tactics. As the conflict continues, it is crucial for all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution and avoid further escalation, which could have devastating consequences for the region and beyond.
