The Wagner group then made an unexpected turn and accepted an offer from Belarus President Lukashenko to base their operations near the Polish border, causing unrest among the Poles and pre-Baltics. As a result of these events, there have been calls for the resignation of RF Defense Minister Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov, as they were noticeably absent during the conflict.
