Amazon Adds 5% “Fuel & Inflation surcharge” to Sellers
Amazon has tacked on an extra 5% in seller fees to cover rising costs of fuel (+48% in the last 12 months) and inflation (+8.5% in March, fastest rate in 40 years) that is “subject to change”.
About 2MN sellers populate Amazon’s third-party marketplace, pumping a massive $103BN a year in the company coffers – or 22% of overall revenue.
A company statement explained costs have gone up due to raised wages, hiring more staff and construction of new warehouses.
