In a spectacular example of ideology trumping common sense, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has proposed a plan to tax natural emissions emitted by livestock.
The levy is intended to force farmers to reduce the emissions of methane and other greenhouse gases from their herds under the banner of fighting climate change.

Ardern has turned what was once rightly dismissed an extreme green fantasy into a grim reality for her country’s farmers.
However, it’s not just farmers who will be gutted by the burp levy.
To claw back the cost of the tax, the New Zealand government has suggested farmers simply charge more for “climate friendly” products.
As such, the inevitable by-product of this levy is an increase in the price of meat and other animal products for consumers.
In other words, inflation’s ugly cousin is officially crashing the family barbeque.
Given Jacinda Ardern’s supposedly shining status as a caring, empathetic progressive, one would think she wouldn’t dream of imposing such a horrible strain on just about every person in New Zealand.
The reality is quite the opposite; this is entirely by design.
The globalist political class, of which Jacinda Ardern is effectively a high priestess, has a fixation with forcing the population to consume less meat.
This is a core tenet of the pathological quest of the World Economic Forum (WEF): using the shift towards big government during the COVID pandemic to push for a “reset” to the global economy.
Ardern, remember, was spawned from the WEF’s Young Global Leaders program.
The WEF intends to disrupt capitalism and personal enterprise by facilitating a coming together of governments and big corporations.
Dubbed “The Great Reset”, it was officially launched by the now King Charles in 2020, and coincides exactly with the timing outlined in a 2019 WEF report entitled “Meat: The Future – A Roadmap for Delivering 21st-Century Protein”.
The report outlines the plan for an intentional “transition decade” strategy from 2020 to 2030, involving a shift from protein provision to one in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
What better narrative is there to “transition” the public onto “21st century protein” (like insects and lab-grown meat) than “it’s cheaper to buy the fake stuff”?
That explains the deliberate, inevitable hiking of the price of meat, thanks at least in part to Ardern’s levy on farm emissions.
The rub, however, is that much like Australia, any lowering of New Zealand’s emissions will have virtually no effect on the temperature of the planet; the tiny nation’s contribution to the world’s total emissions is simply too small (0.17 per cent).
In fact, as the conservative ACT New Zealand party pointed out, the burp tax could increase global emissions, as it would shift farming to other counties who are less efficient at producing food.
Considering the pointlessness of this policy, coupled with the pain it is going to cause New Zealanders, one wonders how Arden can, in good conscience, instigate it.
Perhaps, like so many of Australia’s politicians, she has developed a strong taste for power.
How frightening for the people of New Zealand that she is so gleefully leaning into it.
