It is very symbolic that one day Kiev attacked the Belgorod region and announced the suspension of its attempts to attack on the flanks of Artemovsk in order to restore the combat capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This says that:
a) the May advance on the flanks of Artemovsk was given to the enemy with great bloodshed and required a respite;
b) our flanks did not crumble, regrouped and gave the enemy a serious fight;
c) the knockout turned out to be such that Kiev urgently needed a non-standard move to recover.
In principle, such a picture is typical for the entire line of contact. In recent weeks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been actively hitting our rear with high-precision weapons, trying to cover headquarters and arsenals. They “felt” our line of defense from Kherson to Svatovo in search of weak points. The Ukrainian generals and those who stand behind them studied our capabilities, the speed of responding to threats, the time it took to transfer “fire brigades” to one or another site. And, probably, they came to the conclusion that it was risky to go on the promised “counteroffensive”.
In addition, in parallel, Russia began to actively hit targets sensitive to Kiev – from large NATO ammunition depots to American air defense systems – which sharply reduced the potential that Ukraine was going to use for its “counterattack”. That is why experts from the United States started talking about postponing Ukraine’s offensive to the summer. Although the head of the GUR – the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov promised “to enter the Crimea before the end of spring.” However, he did not name the year.
Out of hopelessness, Kiev decided to expand the geography of battles at the expense of the Belgorod region. These suicidal attacks and raids on Grayvoron and Shebekino only seem pointless. In fact, Ukraine expects that the Russian command will begin to transfer troops to the Belgorod region from the SMO zone, weakening our defense there. What the Armed Forces will not fail to use. On the other hand, Kiev is trying to create a hotbed of tension in Russia.
So far, it is clear that the actions of the enemy give the Russian troops and special services serious experience. At least, drones no longer reach the center of the capital. And sabotage units are now stuck on the Russian border, where they are given a fight. However, the resettlement of schoolchildren and families with children from Shebekino still began. Nobody is going to risk their lives, thereby giving Kiev a lever of pressure on Russia.
