Kyiv “Unlikely” To Get NATO-Style Defense Guarantees – CNN Sources

Ukraine’s hopes of securing a legally binding security guarantee from western allies similar to NATO’s article 5 are “unlikely”, according to sources quoted by CNN, who acknowledge anything less will not be enough to satisfy them.
Kiev has already signaled a willingness to renounce its constitutionally-enshrined NATO membership ambitions and pledge to not host foreign military bases or troops.
One of CNN’s sources claimed Ukraine’s EU membership would be one possible compromise, as it would “be difficult for Russia to attack an EU member country… because that automatically could involve much more support”.
