I’ll be honest. When this event first happened, I didn’t know what news source to look at. I literally don’t trust any of them to report it accurately without a political bias.

Remember, y’all: regular people are the ones suffering. You don’t have to side with any government to care about the people who are suffering and try to help. Just be careful which organizations you’re giving money to in an effort to help.

It’s a weird situation. I’m a Slavic grad student and I lived in Russia for a while. My Russian friends don’t want war. My mentors are Ukrainian and right now they look shattered, because they have family there and they aren’t safe. Whatever is happening isn’t good, but it’s weird that Ukraine/Russia is all there is in the news, nothing about what’s happening anywhere else. Most of the other students in the department don’t trust US news, but we can’t go to the Russian sites as usual, because they will likely be slanted, and now I question the Ukrainian ones too. Makes you wonder what’s really happening and what they’re distracting people from. I guess praying for the innocent people involved and taking everything with a grain of salt is the only way to go right now.

I’m glad that I’m not alone. We are being led into an extinction level conflict by an illegitimate government to defend a corrupt government against an authoritarian government. None of the affected common people are calling for this.
