Everyone knows that the WW2 era mines in the Black Sea were deployed by Ukraine as reported weeks ago by @AussieCossack here

Why would Russia deploy sea mines in a sea it dominates and controls???

Just another FAIL from Western defence intelligence.

FACT CHECK:

The Russian Defence Ministry spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, stated that the Ukrainian Navy, from February 25th to March 4th, deployed 420 anchor mines in the Azov and Black Seas. All mines are of an outdated design; as a result of a breakage of the cables, at least 10 of them went into a “free floating”. One mine was discovered and neutralized by Turkish sailors. The whereabouts of the remaining Ukrainian mines is currently unknown.
