The death toll from a powerful explosion at a warehouse filled with fireworks in southern Thailand has risen to 12 people, according to officials. The incident took place in the village of Muno in the Sungai Kolok district on Saturday. The explosion also resulted in 121 people being injured and caused damage to 292 houses in the Narathiwat province, which shares a border with Malaysia.

Authorities have reported that the majority of the injured individuals have been discharged from medical facilities, with only one remaining in critical condition. Governor Sanan Pong-aksorn stated to reporters that the warehouse, located outside a crowded market, was initially used as a grocery shop. However, it had been storing approximately 5 tons of fireworks at the time of the explosion.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the blast was most likely caused by a spark from a welding torch while a worker was repairing a steel shelf. The owner of the storage space has been charged with negligence, according to the regional police chief. Authorities are now conducting checks to determine if the fireworks factory was operating with the necessary license. Furthermore, dozens of warehouses in the province have been ordered to undergo inspection.

The incident has sparked concerns regarding the safety regulations and oversight of fireworks storage in the area. The authorities are taking steps to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future and ensuring that all necessary precautions are followed.

The explosion has caused significant damage to the local community, with hundreds of homes affected. Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those affected. Local authorities are collaborating with emergency response teams to provide support and aid to those displaced or injured in the incident.

This tragedy serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with the storage and handling of fireworks. It highlights the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols and the need to regularly inspect storage facilities to prevent such incidents. Authorities are urging all individuals and businesses involved in the storage and sale of fireworks to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions to protect both their own interests and the well-being of the community.

As the investigation into the incident continues, authorities are determined to hold those responsible accountable for their negligence. The focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of the local population and working towards the recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.

In light of this incident, authorities are emphasizing the need for increased awareness and education on firework safety within the community. They are also encouraging individuals to report any concerns or suspicions regarding the safekeeping of fireworks to prevent potential disasters.

As the community mourns the loss of lives and begins the process of rebuilding, support from both local and national authorities is being provided. Efforts are being made to offer assistance to the affected families and facilitate the necessary resources for reconstruction.

In conclusion, the explosion at the warehouse filled with fireworks in southern Thailand has resulted in a rising death toll and numerous injuries. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and taking steps to prevent similar accidents in the future. The focus is on ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and providing assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
