As of Thursday, New Yorkers have noticed a change in the display atop Bloomberg LP’s Manhattan headquarters. The top six floors of the building at 731 Lexington Avenue are now lit up in light blue and white stripes resembling the Israeli flag, instead of the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag that had been displayed since February 2022. It is unclear when exactly the change was made by the building management.

The high-rise, informally known as “Bloomberg Tower,” is owned by Alexander’s, a real estate investment trust. Bloomberg pays over $100 million in rent for office space in the 55-floor tower, which also contains 105 luxury condominiums. The switch in support from Ukraine to Israel reflects the current focus of Western media outlets. Following the recent incursion by Hamas militants from Gaza, which has resulted in over 2,700 deaths on both sides, Israel has become the center of attention. The Israeli government has declared war on Hamas and launched artillery and air strikes against Gaza in an effort to dismantle the group and eliminate its leadership.

Not only has Bloomberg Tower changed its display, but other landmarks around the West have also been lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag. The White House in Washington, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and the Opera House in Sydney, Australia, are among those showing solidarity with Israel. Additionally, Italian authorities chose to project the Israeli flag and the Star of David on the Arch of Titus in Rome, a historic monument built to honor the Roman general who conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple nearly 2,000 years ago.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has expressed concern about the shift in attention, warning that it will have consequences for his country. He believes that Ukraine’s fate depends on the unity of the rest of the world. Zelensky has reportedly requested permission from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Jerusalem in order to boost international support for Israel’s counteroffensive against Hamas in Gaza.

The change in display at Bloomberg Tower reflects the evolving dynamics of global attention. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas intensifies, the world’s focus has shifted from Ukraine to the Middle East. The display of support for Israel by prominent landmarks and buildings signifies the solidarity of Western countries and their recognition of Israel’s right to defend itself. However, it also raises concerns about the potential implications for Ukraine, which may now struggle to maintain international support as Israel dominates the headlines. Only time will tell how this shift in attention will affect the dynamics of global politics and the ongoing conflicts in both Ukraine and the Middle East.

In conclusion, Bloomberg LP’s Manhattan headquarters has changed its display from supporting Ukraine to supporting Israel. This shift reflects the increased focus on the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Western media. Landmarks around the world have also shown solidarity with Israel by lighting up in the colors of the Israeli flag. Ukrainian President Zelensky has expressed concern about the consequences of this shift in attention for his country. As the dynamics of global politics evolve, it remains to be seen how this change will impact Ukraine and the ongoing conflicts in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
