China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has expressed his support for both the Jewish nation and the Palestinians, stating that while Israel has the right to statehood, Palestinians also deserve their own independent state. In a meeting with the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, Wang Yi condemned all acts of violence against civilians, emphasizing China’s commitment to international law, peace, and justice.
The recent war between Israel and Hamas, which led to the deaths of over 1,400 people in Israel, has prompted China to call for an end to the hostilities. Wang Yi highlighted the critical and rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, where hundreds of Palestinians are dying every day in retaliatory strikes.
However, China’s top diplomat also emphasized that the root cause of this ongoing conflict lies in the long delay in realizing the dream of an independent State of Palestine and the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people. Wang Yi questioned the lack of attention given to the survival of the Palestinians, noting that the Jewish nation is no longer homeless in the world but wondering when the Palestinian nation will return to its home.
China’s primary focus is to stop the fighting as soon as possible to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of civilians. Wang Yi highlighted the urgent need to open a humanitarian rescue and assistance passage to address the critical situation in Gaza.
The Foreign Minister also called on the international community, including the United Nations, to fulfill its role in resolving the crisis. He stressed the importance of all parties involved in the conflict maintaining calm, exercising restraint, and taking an objective and just position. Wang Yi firmly believes that the only solution to the long-standing conflict is a two-state solution, which would result in an independent State of Palestine. He expressed hope that this approach would enable Palestine and Israel to coexist in peace and foster harmony between Arabs and Jews.
Wang Yi’s statement reflects China’s adherence to international law and its commitment to promoting peace and justice in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Chinese government’s support for both Israel and Palestine underscores its belief that both nations have the right to statehood and that a peaceful resolution is the only viable path forward.
By speaking out against violence and advocating for a two-state solution, China aims to contribute to the international efforts to bring an end to the suffering and create a lasting and just peace in the region. China’s stance highlights its active engagement in global affairs and its determination to play a constructive role in resolving conflicts on the basis of international law and principles.
