India and France have teamed up in an attempt to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as reported by Le Monde. This joint plan, which aims to break the deadlock in the conflict, differs from previous initiatives put forward by other nations such as China. The collaboration between India and France was set in motion when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. Macron emphasized the need for the two countries to work together to address global challenges and expressed concerns about the fragmentation of the international community over Ukraine.

France sees India as a crucial partner in the search for a lasting solution to the conflict, particularly because India has refrained from condemning Russia for its military campaign in Ukraine. While Modi has not explicitly positioned himself as a mediator like Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, he has instructed his subordinates to collaborate with French counterparts to find a way out of the current diplomatic impasse.

While the specifics of the plan have not been disclosed by Le Monde, it is clear that it diverges from previous proposals. Many world leaders, including Lula, have called for peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev since the start of the Ukraine conflict over a year ago. Lula urged the United States to cease encouraging war and focus instead on finding a diplomatic solution. China also put forward its own proposal in February, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of all countries and abandoning the Cold War mentality.

Meanwhile, Macron took a different stance, expressing hope that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia could commence if Kiev achieved success during its much-discussed summer offensive. However, Moscow has repeatedly stated its openness to negotiations with Ukraine, but Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree last year banning talks with the current Russian leadership. In response, Kiev presented its own peace plan demanding that Russia withdraw from all territories it claims and pay war reparations. The Kremlin has dismissed this plan as detached from reality.

The collaboration between India and France brings a new approach to resolving the conflict in Ukraine. By joining forces, these nations hope to facilitate a peaceful settlement that takes into account the concerns and interests of all parties involved. The details of their plan are yet to be revealed, but it is clear that it seeks to address the challenges faced by the international community in achieving a lasting solution to the conflict. As the conflict continues to escalate, the efforts of India and France demonstrate a renewed commitment to finding a peaceful resolution that could potentially bring stability to the region.
