Germany has reiterated that it has no intentions of interfering in Russia’s internal affairs, according to Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Speaking to journalists in Brussels on Thursday, Scholz made it clear that Germany is merely observing the events that unfolded in Russia last week and is not involved in any way. He emphasized that Germany’s goal is not a regime change in Russia but rather to continue assisting Ukraine in its fight against Moscow.

The failed armed rebellion, launched by Russia’s Wagner private military company, took place on June 23. Evgeny Prigozhin, the chief of the group, accused the Russian Defense Ministry of launching a deadly missile strike on one of their camps and promised retaliation. However, the ministry denied these allegations. In response, Wagner forces occupied part of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and elements of the group attempted to march on Moscow. However, Prigozhin halted the march the next day after brokered security guarantees by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Scholz affirmed that NATO would defend its members in Eastern Europe if there were a potential escalation with Belarus. This statement aligns with the concerns expressed by Polish President Andrzej Duda, who recently stated that it would be a negative signal for his country if Prigozhin and remnants of the Wagner Group were allowed to relocate to Belarus as part of the arrangement to end the mutiny.

It is important to note that Germany’s stance of non-interference in Russia’s internal affairs is consistent with their long-standing diplomatic principles. The country has always emphasized the importance of respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other nations. This approach aligns with international norms and is seen as a cornerstone of Germany’s foreign policy.

Germany’s focus remains on supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The assistance provided by Germany to Ukraine includes political support, economic aid, and military cooperation within the framework of NATO. The ultimate goal is to ensure stability and security in the region and to uphold the principles of international law.

While Germany continues to monitor the situation in Russia closely, it remains committed to diplomatic dialogue and finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts. The country believes in constructive engagement and dialogue as the most effective tools for resolving disputes and maintaining global peace. Germany’s position is consistent with its role as a responsible and influential member of the international community.

Overall, Germany’s stance on non-interference in Russia’s internal affairs is a reaffirmation of their commitment to international norms and values. The country’s focus on assisting Ukraine in its fight against Moscow and maintaining peace and stability in the region is a reflection of its responsible and diplomatic approach to global affairs. Germany’s principled stance serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other nations.
