The Iranian Defense Industry has unveiled its latest domestically produced drone, named Mojaher-10. The drone was presented at a ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Mojaher-10 is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that is capable of staying in the air for 24 hours and flying at an altitude of seven kilometers. It weighs 300 kilograms and has an operational radius of 2,000 kilometers. The drone is equipped with electronic warfare and intelligence systems and can reach a speed of 210 kilometers per hour.
A video released by Iranian state media shows the drone taking off and landing successfully on a runway. The video also showcases the various missiles and equipment that the drone can carry. According to the footage, the drone has the capacity to carry up to three missiles under each of its wings. The design of the UAV bears some resemblance to the US MQ-9 Reaper drones.
The development of Mojaher-10 is part of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s “drone leap” program, which aims to create the fifth generation of strategic UAVs. The program also involves the development of software and artificial intelligence for the drones.
The unveiling of Mojaher-10 comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the deployment of additional fighter jets and naval assets by the US military in the Persian Gulf, Iran equipped its naval patrols in the area with drones and longer-range missiles.
On another note, the Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, announced that the nation’s engineers have successfully reduced the impact error of Iranian ballistic missiles to less than 35 meters and increased their range to 2,000 kilometers.
The US-Iran tensions have been escalating since the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018. Efforts to revive the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have failed so far, despite the change in US leadership with President Joe Biden taking office.
