Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has announced a blockade of Gaza in response to the ongoing conflict between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas militants. The Palestinian group launched a massive assault against Israel on Saturday, resulting in numerous casualties.
Speaking after an assessment meeting at the IDF Southern Command on Monday, Gallant declared a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. He stated that there will be no access to electricity, food, or fuel, and all services will be shut down. This measure is a response to the escalating violence and is intended to exert pressure on Hamas militants. Gallant reportedly referred to the militants as “human animals” during his address, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
The IDF has made significant progress in regaining control of the towns along the Gaza border that were initially overrun by Hamas militants. Israel’s chief military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, confirmed on Monday that the IDF has already reclaimed control of all these towns and that fighting in the area has significantly reduced. However, he acknowledged that there may still be terrorists present, and isolated clashes continue to take place between the IDF and Hamas fighters.
To prevent further infiltration by Palestinian fighters, the IDF has deployed tanks and drones to monitor the openings in the border fence. Additionally, 15 out of the 24 border communities have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. These efforts are aimed at restoring stability and security in the region.
Meanwhile, the IDF has launched widespread airstrikes against multiple Hamas positions throughout Gaza. These airstrikes are a crucial part of Israel’s response to the Hamas assault and are intended to weaken the militants’ capabilities. The ongoing conflict has resulted in a high number of casualties, with Israeli officials estimating that more than 700 people have been killed and over 2,200 wounded in the Hamas assault.
