A recent survey conducted by pollster Social Science-Research Solutions (SSRS) and commissioned by CNN has revealed that a majority of Americans believe the United States has already provided enough support to Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The survey, which was conducted in July and included 1,279 randomly selected respondents from US households, found that only 48% of participants believed that the US should do more to support Ukraine, while 51% believed that the country had received sufficient aid.

Furthermore, the survey found that 45% of respondents believed that the US Congress should not authorize additional funding for Ukraine, arguing that the country had already received enough assistance. Those who still supported aid for Ukraine expressed a preference for intelligence gathering, with 63% of respondents favoring such activities. Additionally, 53% of participants supported the idea of providing military training to Ukraine.

Interestingly, the results of this survey differed significantly from a previous poll conducted by SSRS in February 2022, shortly after the start of the conflict. At that time, 62% of respondents believed that the US should do more to support Ukraine, while the remaining respondents believed that enough had already been done. This suggests a shift in public opinion over the course of the conflict.

The survey also indicated that concerns about the conflict in Ukraine escalating into a larger war have diminished over the past year and a half. In February 2022, approximately 80% of respondents expressed worry about the hostilities turning into a broader war in Europe. However, in this latest survey, only 59% of participants said they were “worried” about such a scenario.

Similarly, the number of respondents who expressed concerns about the implications of the conflict for US national security has decreased. In February 2022, 72% of participants were worried about the conflict’s potential impact on national security, compared to 56% in the latest poll.

It is notable that the survey results indicate a decrease in public support for further US involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. This may have implications for decisions made by Congress regarding additional funding for Ukraine. Despite a decrease in public concern about the conflict, it is important to note that the situation in Ukraine remains complex and volatile, with ongoing violence and geopolitical tensions. The opinions and perspectives expressed in this survey represent just one aspect of the broader discourse surrounding US foreign policy towards Ukraine.
