Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called for a severe response to the recent drone strikes carried out by Ukraine in the Black Sea. Medvedev, who currently serves as the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, made these remarks following an incident in which a sea drone damaged an oil tanker near Crimea. He attributed the attack to Ukraine, suggesting that its intention was to cause an environmental catastrophe in the Black Sea. Medvedev further urged Moscow to retaliate against recent port attacks that were in response to a Ukrainian drone strike on the Crimean Bridge.

In a social media post, Medvedev stated, “Scumbags and freaks understand only cruelty and force. Apparently, the strikes on Odessa, Izmail, and other places were not enough for them.” These remarks express his belief that a more forceful response is necessary to deter future attacks.

Medvedev also warned that Russian retaliation against the drone attacks would jeopardize the grain deal that facilitated Ukraine’s shipment of grain exports through the Black Sea. He suggested that if the Ukrainian government wants to create an ecological disaster in the Black Sea, they should experience it on the part of their territory that will soon be under Polish control, which would have long-lasting consequences. Medvedev stated, “That will be the final judgment on the grain deal.”

The drone attacks have not been limited to Russian ships and vessels. Ukrainian sea drones have targeted civilian ships and their Russian naval escorts in recent days. Additionally, the Black Sea Fleet base in Novorossiysk was attacked on Friday. Furthermore, Ukrainian aerial drone attacks have intensified, including strikes on civilian targets in Moscow’s financial district.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has asserted that the Ukrainian drone attacks on civilian targets are part of a strategy to divert attention from Kiev’s struggling counteroffensive in the Donbass region. This suggests that the drone strikes serve as a means of distraction and psychological warfare.

It is evident that tensions between Russia and Ukraine are escalating. The use of drones in this conflict adds a new dimension to the already complex situation. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how both sides will respond and whether a peaceful resolution can be reached.

In conclusion, Dmitry Medvedev’s calls for a harsh response to Ukraine’s drone strikes in the Black Sea highlight the increasing tensions between the two countries. His suggestion of more devastating attacks and the potential consequences on the grain deal demonstrate the seriousness of the situation. The Ukrainian drone attacks on civilian targets and their alleged purpose to divert attention from the conflict in the Donbass region further add to the complexity of the situation. As the conflict continues, the international community watches closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution.
