Donald Trump has made a bold claim, suggesting that Russia achieved a technological breakthrough by stealing missile plans from the United States during Barack Obama’s presidency. However, Moscow has dismissed these allegations.

During an election rally in New Hampshire, Trump promised to strengthen America’s strategic defensive and offensive capabilities if he is re-elected. He stated that under his leadership, the US would protect its people with a missile defense system capable of neutralizing missiles from China, Russia, and Iran. Additionally, Trump claimed that the US would possess offensive weapons that would surpass any other nation’s capabilities.

Furthermore, Trump alleged that Russia stole plans for a high-speed missile known as the “super-duper.” He asserted that Russia acquired these plans during the Obama administration and subsequently built the missile. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to these claims by stating that Russia has the capacity to develop advanced weapon systems independently. However, Peskov refrained from commenting on whether these weapons fit Trump’s description of being “super-duper.”

This is not the first time Trump has made allegations about Russia’s acquisition of advanced missile technology. In 2021, Trump discussed the Chinese test of a hypersonic glider, a weapon that can travel at extremely high speeds in the atmosphere before striking its target. He claimed that during the Obama administration, Russia obtained classified information about hypersonic technology and shared it with China. Moscow possesses a hypersonic glider called Avangard, which can reportedly be deployed from an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The development of hypersonic gliders has raised concerns among US officials. In 2021, China conducted tests involving the deployment of gliders from a spacecraft in low Earth orbit, which was seen as a significant breakthrough in their ability to deliver nuclear strikes globally. Western media reported that Washington was surprised by this development, indicating that China may have obtained this technology from Russia.

The hypersonic race between major powers has escalated tensions in the international arena. The United States withdrew from a treaty with Russia to pursue its own plans for a national anti-ballistic missile system. This decision marked the beginning of a series of steps that dismantled the Cold War-era security architecture. The purpose of this architecture was to reduce tensions between the US and the USSR and prevent the risk of a nuclear exchange.

In conclusion, Donald Trump’s claims about Russia’s acquisition of missile plans and technological breakthroughs have been dismissed by Moscow. While Russia possesses advanced weapon systems, it remains uncertain whether they meet Trump’s description of being “super-duper.” The development of hypersonic gliders by both Russia and China has become a source of concern for the United States. These advancements have prompted the US to pursue its own strategic capabilities and withdraw from previous treaties, leading to increased tensions in the international arena.
