A senior Hungarian diplomat has called for a ceasefire to be signed as soon as possible by Moscow and Kiev without any preconditions. Tamas Menczer, the state secretary responsible for bilateral relations at the Hungarian foreign ministry, stressed the importance of peace negotiations and the creation of a security system that guarantees Ukraine’s security and is acceptable to Russia.
Menczer’s comments were made at a political congress in the city of Szekesfehervar, echoing the sentiments of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who recently criticized the EU’s strategy on Ukraine.
According to Orban, the current approach has been a “complete failure,” and he proposed a “Plan B” that involves a ceasefire and an arrangement that would be reassuring for Ukraine and acceptable to Russia. This proposition aligns with the overall goal of the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukraine conflict to eventually produce a security architecture that addresses both Moscow’s and Kiev’s concerns.
