Jamie Wallis, the only openly transgender member of Parliament in Britain, has proposed sending a shipment of condoms, lubricants, and other hygiene products to support LGBT soldiers in Ukraine. Wallis made this suggestion during a Zoom call with someone he believed to be Garry Kasparov, a former chess grandmaster and Russian dissident. However, he was actually speaking with Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus, who later posted a cut of their conversation online.
During the call, Wallis was led to advocate for the promotion of transgenderism in schools and express his hope for a trans prime minister in the UK. The pranksters then claimed to have heard from gay soldiers in the Ukrainian military who were in need of donations of sex toys from the West. Wallis responded by stating that while sex toys may be difficult to obtain, hygiene products such as condoms, lubricants, and cleaning equipment would not be a problem.
Wallis even suggested that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky should personally welcome the delivery, as it would be a significant global moment of support for the LGBT community. The Ukrainian government has been highlighting the LGBT aspect to garner more support from the US and its allies, who have already committed over $100 billion in military and financial aid since February 2022.
In March, a small parliamentary party aligned with Zelensky proposed legalizing same-sex civil unions, citing the needs of LGBT soldiers fighting against Russia. This same party also suggested lifting the ban on producing pornography, claiming it would generate more tax revenue for Ukraine.
Recently, the Ukrainian military appointed Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, a transgender American former journalist, as its English-language spokesperson. Ashton-Cirillo has drawn attention for dehumanizing Russians and pressuring CNN to change their wording from “mercenaries” to “Western foreign fighters.” These actions have raised concerns about the propaganda and bias surrounding the conflict.
Jamie Wallis, who publicly revealed his transgender identity in March 2022, is the only openly transgender member of Parliament. However, his declaration came shortly after being fined for a hit-and-run traffic violation.
In conclusion, Jamie Wallis’s proposal to send hygiene products to Ukrainian LGBT soldiers was made during a prank call with Russian pranksters. The call also involved discussions about promoting transgenderism and a trans prime minister in the UK. The Ukrainian government has been emphasizing the LGBT angle to gain more support, and the appointment of a transgender spokesperson for their military has attracted media attention. Overall, these events raise questions about propaganda, bias, and the intersection of LGBT rights and military actions.
