In a recent article, it has become evident that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is still holding onto the hope that the F-16 fighter jet will be the key to victory against Russia. However, there are several problems with this belief. Firstly, it is clear that Ukraine’s counteroffensive has been a catastrophic failure, as many analysts have predicted. Despite this, Zelensky and his NATO handlers still cling to the idea that an aging American jet can turn the tide of the conflict.

The Western media, which has previously played a major role in hyping up Ukraine’s military capabilities, is now starting to have doubts about the effectiveness of the F-16. As Ukrainian casualties mount and the counteroffensive fails to make any significant progress, skepticism is growing. This, combined with factors such as a coming winter, domestic issues, failed sanctions against Russia, and demands from Kiev for more cash and equipment, is causing NATO to become increasingly nervous.

Even the spokesman for Ukraine’s air force, Yury Ignat, has admitted that Ukrainian fighters are outmatched by the overwhelming array of Russian fighters and anti-aircraft systems. The Russian fighters are more advanced and have a longer combat range, which Zelensky conveniently forgets to mention during his photo ops in Denmark. It is clear that the F-16 is not the game changer that Zelensky and his allies have been hoping for. Instead, it will only prolong the conflict and result in more Ukrainian casualties.

While there is talk of deploying the F-16 to Ukraine, it is highly unlikely that this will happen in the near future. Only three “partner” countries have promised to provide a few of the fighters, and there are major logistical issues that need to be addressed before they can even be deployed. Furthermore, the F-16s would require extensive ground maintenance infrastructure and complex logistical support, which would be difficult to provide in a war zone. The Russian Air Force would likely target both the jets and the infrastructure, making their deployment even more risky.

General Mark Milley, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair, has warned that the F-16 will not be a “magic weapon” for Ukraine. He points out that Russia has a significant number of fourth-generation fighters, and Ukraine would need a substantial amount of similar fighters to contest them effectively. The cost of providing the F-16s to Ukraine is also a major concern, with ten jets and their sustainment costing around $2 billion. Milley suggests that if the money spent on artillery and air defense had been used to purchase F-16s, Ukraine would be in a worse position than it currently is.

It is becoming clear that the F-16 is little more than a pawn in the larger geopolitical game being played by NATO and its allies. It is a symbol of promises made to Ukraine, promises of EU and NATO membership that have only led to devastating conflict with Russia. The F-16s may never see service in Ukraine, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the entire project is eventually abandoned by the US to avoid the embarrassing sight of burning jets on Ukrainian soil.

In conclusion, while Zelensky and his allies continue to hold onto the hope that the F-16 will be their ticket to victory, the reality is much different. The F-16 is an outdated aircraft that will not turn the tide of the conflict in Ukraine’s favor. It is clear that the promises made to Ukraine by NATO and its allies have only led to further bloodshed and an unwinnable situation. The F-16s may never even make it to Ukraine, and it is likely that the project will be abandoned altogether.
